SuperCollider is an environment and programming language for real time audio synthesis and algorithmic composition. It provides an interpreted object-oriented language which functions as a network client to a state of the art, realtime sound synthesis server.
SuperCollider was written by James McCartney over a period of many years, and is now an open source (GPL) project maintained and developed by various people. It is used by musicians, scientists, and artists working with sound. For some background, see SuperCollider described by Wikipedia.

Computer Music Courses Theory and Practice of new Music and Sound Art
On the 8th of February Labor-Linz in collaboration with servus.at start with a permanent class about Computer Music. As part of the servus Campus program this class covers the theory and application of new and existing technologies in music and sound art, such as sound synthesis, digital signal processing, sound design, sonic diffusion, acoustics, and psychoacoustics. In particular we will learn:
- Homework!
- Theory of Auditory Localization
- Principles of Spatialisation: from 2 ch panning to multichannel works
- Binaural sound, quadraphonic sound, 5.1, WFS and Ambisonics
- Implementation in Pd
- Implementation in DAW (Ardour, Reaper, Nuendo, Protools...) with VST
- Listening to different excerpts of multichannel works and recordings.
- Assigment: composing a short etude in which the basic principle is space
